Dear fellow members and friends

Sunday 12 September
Chris is arranging this. You should have already had a message from him – promising more details later

Sunday 26 September
Wivelsfield – Cuckfield – Balcombe – Ardingly – Lindfield – Wivelsfield. c 21 miles
This route features the attractive villages of Cuckfield and Lindfield on either 'wing' of Haywards Heath. Between those we'll take the road that goes beneath the Ouse Viaduct (the one you go across in the train to London) – splendid sight – then through Balcombe, across the Ardingly Resevoir and then following a route familiar to participants on the London-Brighton Bike Ride. Familiarity of this genre will continue after Lindfield as we return to Wivelsfield via the splendidly named Slugwash Lane.

Catch 10.58 from Brighton Station or meet at Wivelsfield Station at 11.15.

Last Ride

29 August
Fortunately, perhaps, only Joyce and I made this one. I say 'fortunately' because the train from Ford was delayed by half an hour (Joyce cycled it to Arundel after waiting some time and nearly beat the train). Then what looked like cycleable brideways on the map turned out to be narrow footpaths complete with stiles and barbed wire. Consequently we had to tackle more hills on our return leg than anticipated. That said, we got to the Pulborough Brooks RSPB centre and had a look round and found some nice lanes around (and through) the Parham estate.

I'm on holiday now till 21st. Please turn out in large numbers (and with sunny dispositions – as always) for Chris's ride.

Nearly forgot to remind you about the two Sustrans Events taking place while I'm away.

On Saturday 11 September there is a national trail-blazing ride to the Eden Project in Cornwall which will be starting off at 10.15am at the West Pier. If you can get along to cheer them on their way that would be welcome

But more especially please, if you can participate in all or some of the Shoreham to Newhaven Opening Ride the day before (Friday 10 September) along this stretch of the National Cycle Network please do. Sustrans are appealing for local cyclists (us) to join them. Here's the details: you're welcome to join (and leave!) at any point.

10.15 for 10.30 start Civic Centre, Shoreham (near the station)

11.30 meeting with B&H councillors on Seafront opposite Kings House

1pm lunch at the White Horse, Rottingdean then on to Newhaven

Sounds our sort of speed!

For more details contact Liz Beth on 766656 or Lizb@sustrans.org.uk.

Boots!

Ian
