Dyke Road

I've always been intrigued by the Dyke Road cycle lanes, which seem to get narrower, the further up you get.
I couldn't be bothered to cycle all the way up there to take snaps, but last Sunday
I was in the sweep van for the Capital to Coast bike ride and took
the opportunity to snap the road heading south to the sea.
Apparently they have been improved on the north-bound side
and maybe this is what the roadworks
are for here?
