CATASTROPHE AT STAINES.

8.5pm, September 17th. An attenuated greyhound of tender years, not exercising sufficient caution in crossing the High Street, ran into and upset a lady Pilgrim. A loud scream of a very human character emanated from the scene of the accident, and was said to have been produced by the hound. The local citizens soon gathered in curious wonder, and within a few minutes, the newsboy was on the spot. Cries of Terrible Accident at Staines – Paper, were heard.

LATER 8.35pm. At a very rural spot, some two miles from Colnbrook, Mr Percy Phillips in descending a hill broke some of the free-wheel portion of his Raglan. The machine, however, behaved quite well as a fixed wheel, and the gentleman, riding with praiseworthy caution, safely finished the jouney.

"A WISH"

"May the Pilgrims be guided up beyond
The Valley of Death, and the Slough of Despond.
And Doubting Castle, and Giant Despair,
To those Delectable Mountains fair,
And over the River, and in at the Gate,
Where for weary Pilgrims, the Angels wait!"

EPILOGUE

Few words are needed to portray how charming is this book,
And now these pages have been turned, you’ll often want to look.

In Winter, when the Flags are furled, and Cycles put away,
To gaze again will bring back thoughts of many a happy day.

Next Summer, should you wish to join this Club of which you’ve read,
Apply to Captain Whittington, who is our gallant head.

I’m sure you never will regret the day you joined this band,
Who call themselves "The Pilgrims" as they cycle through the land.

So, "Au revoir", but not good-bye, to members far and near,
Sincerely hoping all may meet to ride again next year

ESTHER MILLER NEIGHBOUR.
